Situated in South West Uganda is the stunning Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, a UNESCO World Heritage. It is deep within this forest that you can come face to face with the famous resident-the mountain gorilla, an endangered primate.
Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp is the perfect base from which to track these gentle giants and see them in their natural habitat. Daily walks in small groups, leave the camp to trek up into the mountains to view the mountain gorilla. The terrain is not easy with steep slopes and beautiful dense vegetation and it is wise to be fairly fit to take part in a trek. You may be lucky to be visited by one of the families of gorillas when in camp. The pristine Gorilla Forest Camp has spectacular views of lush landscape and is in a perfect setting for peace and tranquility. The 10 tents are spacious and comfortable with 2 queen size beds in each tent and a bathtub looking out onto the forest. There is a bar and dining cottage, both with superb views of the surrounding mountains.
You can also take a guided forest walk where could see some of the 350 species of birds, 11 types of primates, forest duiker, rare forest elephant, giant forest hog and over 2000 species of butterflies. Of interest is a visit to the local community where you could see how they go about their daily lives.
